Mammy's Spiced Tea

1/2 cup tea leaves
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
4 cups cold water
2 cups (or less) sugar
1 cup orange juice
2/3 cup lemon juice
12 cups boiling water

Tie the loose tea and spices in separate bags.
In a large non-reactive saucepan mix cold water and sugar and place
the spice bag in the water. Boil 10 minutes. Pour this mixture into the
12 cups boiling water. Add the bag of tea leaves and steep 5 minutes.
Remove both the spice bag and tea bag and discard them.
To the hot tea mixture add the orange juice and lemon juice. Stir well
and serve. This delicious tea is a long-standing Christmas Eve tradition
in our family! It goes very well with munching on Christmas cookies
and listening to 'Amahl and the Night Visitor'!
