Orange Butter Cookies

1 stick (1/2 cup) unsalted
butter, softened
1 cup sugar
2 large egg yolks
1 1/2 tablespoons grated orange zest
1 tablespoon orange juice
1 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
Additional unsalted butter, melted,
for brushing
In a large bowl cream together butter and sugar. Beat in egg yolks,
one at
a time, beating well after each addition, orange zest and orange juice. Into
a bowl
sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Stir mixture into sugar mixture and chill
dough, covered, for at least 3 hours.
Roll level tablespoons of dough into balls and
arrange balls 2 inches apart
on lightly buttered baking sheets. Flatten balls slightly
with bottom of glass
and bake in middle of preheated 375-degree F. oven 7 to 10 minutes or
until
edges are golden. While cookies are still warm, brush them with
melted unsalted butter and
transfer them to a rack to cool. Will keep at
least 1 week in airtight container.
Makes
about 36 cookies.
