Old Dominion Cobbler
An old-fashioned cake-like cobbler that has
become
an all-time family favorite!
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
1 1/2 cups flour
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
4 teaspoons baking powder
1 cup milk
4 cups fresh peaches, sliced
Sugar as needed
Place the sliced peaches in a large bowl and sprinkle
with sugar to taste.
Toss to mix well.
Melt the butter in a 13x9-inch baking dish. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
In a mixing bowl, mix
flour, sugar, salt and baking powder. Add the milk
and stir well. Pour this
mixture on top of butter, taking care not to stir.
Top with peaches and
juice. Bake 45 to 55 minutes.
This is a rich, delicious dessert,
but still we cannot resist topping it with
cream or vanilla ice cream.
